Finding the Boost of Motivation you Need to Step Your Game Up
The new year will be here before we know it. Some of us have moved beyond writing a list of things to accomplish, creating a vision board to depict the year ahead, or even selected a word to focus on. What we may need is simple… motivation! Instead of starting the year with anything that is cliche, let’s just admit we just need a boost of motivation to get us through the new year and through the rest of our graduate studies. At the end of the day we are all human and it’s okay to do what’s easier, but often times we need to go the extra mile.
How can you find the motivation you need to step your game up in the new year?
Create a new daily routine. Wake up 10-15 minutes before your alarm clock is supposed to go. In the 10-15 minutes, use it to stretch, meditate, or even eat breakfast. You will have to work try different things to see what works best for you. Once you find something, stick to it to help give you a boost of motivation to start your day.
Set realistic goals. Remember things aren’t going to change overnight, you have to set goals that work well for you schedule and your personal timeline. You can’t begin to run a marathon without training, right? After you strategically set your realistic goals, make sure they the are all measurable. The smaller the goal is, the more attainable it will be. Once you are motivated enough, kick it up a notch when setting other realistic goals.
Share your commitments publicly. You don’t have to get on a stage and scream to the top of your lungs, but you do need to share it with friends and family. This will be extremely helpful, especially if you typically lack motivation. You don’t want to let those around you down, by not sticking to your goals. The ones that care about your success won’t allow you to lose sight of what’s in front of you and definitely want you to stay motivated.
Get over your fears. When we lack motivation, we could potentially be afraid of something. Once we get over our fears, we will be able to tackle all of our tasks and have a boost of motivation. Don’t give up on your dreams, because you are fearful of something. If you are afraid of failing, you have to start with trying. It only make sense to give it a try, succeed, and there goes your boost of motivation. It takes time, but you got this!
